Design / Strategy / Writing

Hello! I’m Rachel.

I’m a content designer, strategist, and writer. That means I use words to solve problems, engage users, improve team processes, and sometimes just for fun.

Somehow, I’ve been in the content biz for a decade now. Getting paid to think about words has always been my dream ever since I got my first journal at age 6. Ever since then, I’ve been spending most of my time looking for the right words.

TESTIMONIALS

TESTIMONIALS

  • During our shared time at Mailchimp, I had the very fortunate experience of directly managing Rachel, during a colleague's parental leave, and indirectly on a number of my projects to which she was staffed.

Rachel is a star! Smart, incisive, thoughtful, and strategic, she worked on everything from UX writing, to product comms and messaging frameworks, to end-to-end journey mapping, and more. Rachel's work was always of an extremely high caliber, and I always felt confident in the success of a project when she was staffed to it. In fact, her work was referenced *often* long after she left the company.

Simply, as a manger, Rachel made my job easier and she was a blast to work with. I'd love to work with her again someday.

  • Rachel is the kind of colleague whose work you reference years later (true story)—she’s a strategic thinker who always takes the long view of a problem space and comes up with ideas that are ahead of their time.

I was on the hiring committee for her at Mailchimp, and remember feeling so lucky that we snagged such a capable content designer for our growing team.

She’s a skilled designer who’s great at shifting altitude. Rachel can hash out microcopy or talk through user flows in the same conversation. She was an encouraging and uplifting force in team and one-off crits, giving excellent, actionable feedback that improved a lot of experiences across our product.

Rachel is truly a force-multiplier of UX excellence. What a gift to work with her! And how lucky any organization would be to benefit from her myriad skills.

-Brooke Hatfield, Staff Content Desiger @ Intuit Mailchimp

  • I had the pleasure of working with Rachel during our time at both Kabbage and Mailchimp. Starting at Kabbage I was hugely impressed by Rachel's ability to understand the mindset and needs of our customers and apply that to each and every strategy, initiative or campaign she worked on. In a dynamic, fast-paced, start-up environment she was able to quickly delve into the needs of our users and of the business, and apply both to her work successfully. Building on her strong relationships, she always worked towards cross-functional alignment and improved processes between teams. Despite a high-volume of fast turn work, she was always able to strike the balance between never stopping at just "good enough", while still fulfilling upon the needs of the business.

Based on all the above, I was very excited to work with Rachel again at Mailchimp, and I was amazed by the way she grew throughout that time. Moving beyond Marketing content strategy and writing, Rachel was able to continue to push her skills into the product space. Building upon her solid understanding of the user and of the brand, she extended her expertise to projects across UX, governance, and product content strategy.

I truly believe there is no environment or project that Rachel cannot thrive in and add value to. After working with her across two separate companies and many different types of initiatives I would recommend her to any team. I hope we have the pleasure of working together in the future again!

  • Rachel participates with interest and strives consistently to master her skills. She shows respect for her peers and has appropriate work habits. She tends to speak out of turn and can be loud for a young lady.

She has a very positive attitude toward technology.
